Welcome to a Future in the Cloud

When in the late 90s the developers began to massively discover 3D for themselves, almost all genres were feverish, but in particular, platformers. Eternal question – who is cooler, Sonic or Mario? – allowed by itself: the Italian plumber successfully mastered the third dimension in Super Mario 64 , And the reactive hedgehog, barely pulling the dilogy Sonic Adventure for DreamCast, sadly crawled towards portable consoles and could not recover from the blow for several years.

But the success of the three-dimensional Mario is due to the fact that some indecent amount of money and effort was thrown on him Nintendo , Meanwhile, another great N-platformer, Mega Man , went into the shadow: Capcom , densely busy at that time Resident Evil And Devil May Cry , At some point, she forgot about the legendary blue man who shot energy seats from her own hand.

Megaepochi man

About how the publisher ultimately changed his mind and what the poor fellow megamen had to endure over the years, you can read in the insert on the neighboring pages. Another thing is important now. Mega Man, a classic classic, one of the symbols of an eight -bit era, returns in the form in which it was remembered many years ago. This is still a flat platform about robots, old -fashioned, uncompromising and very angry.

In the mechanical world, not everything is calm again. The unknown virus Roboans struck almost all robots. The best minds of the planet, including the Great Professor Light, whose megamen walks in assistants, were powerless to invent the medicine. And then Dr. Wiles, the main villain of the series, who states that he managed to create a prototype of pill from the Roboans, but she was abducted by the mysterious villains, unexpectedly enters the stage. Eternally warring scientists conclude a truce, and Megamen goes in the wake of thieves – his friend Roll dies from Roboans.

From the very first parts of Mega Man, the game got not only an exceptionally conditional plot, but also mechanics, and even the engine. Today, you will not surprise anyone with stylization for eight -bit platformers, but the focus is that the Mega Man 10 is no stylization, this is a platformer for NES: the authors used the same technologies, animation, design. Everything that is in this game can theoretically be fitting in a yellow cartridge and launched on the "dandy". After such a sincere, honest retro, all modern “stylized games”, even such good ones as Vvvvvv , They seem to be a piercing attempt to press the nostalgic feelings of the players. Mega Man does not try to deceive anyone: he was just born like that.

Also red

In Mega Man 10, you can play not only for Megamen directly, but also for his partner

Proto Man is not another megamen costume, but an independent robot, in the Japanese version known as Blues. First appeared in Mega Man 3 (level with train) and for some reason was then called Break Man then. The protomenion was invented by Dr. Light even before Megamen, so it is weaker and it jumps worse. But his hand-gun applies more damage, and can also accumulate energy and shoot a large deadly ball. It is impossible to go to proton, as in the case of costumes, to switch during the game, the character’s choice menu is available only at the very beginning. In any case, it is noticeable that the levels in the Mega Man 10 were hidden precisely under Megamen, for his red partner they are somewhat unbalanced.

The game of megaepochi

The game not only looks in the same way as many years ago, but also lives according to the same laws. This is still a platformer where you control a robot that has a serious ailment: it cannot shoot up. All opponents, of course, are aware of his weakness, therefore, they strive to jump on Megamen on the head: for example, the robots, the revived deep bombs and the insidious piston-killer ones are opposed to him.

In addition, according to tradition, there are eight robots-bosses in the way of megamen, each has its own thematic level. About these villains, we have some other important information. Everyone must be familiar with the situation when in some conditional platformer it is not possible to defeat the boss, because it, for example, shallows shamelessly on the platform and fries from there with lightning. Usually at that moment an obsessive thought comes to mind: “If only I would have the same power as him, then I would ask everyone!»In Mega Man you have such an opportunity. The fact is that when you kill the next boss, his skills go to you. So, if the Blade Man throws the fans of the knives, and Sheep Man calls the electric cloud, having prevailed over them, you can also do the same, you just have to change the costume (it is done by pressing one button). By the end of the game, you will turn into a sowing death and destruction by a machine that can shoot with motorcycle wheels and create a water shield around you.

To hell and back

How Mega Man became a bad game, and then again good

Under classic releases Mega Man implies the first six parts that reached the NES in the period from 1987 to 1994. For CAPCOM, this was one of the first video game series in general: before Mega Man, they released only little -known cosmic arcades. The seventh part reached Super Nintendo, and some problems began here: the graphics were more advanced, but much more expressive, levels and bosses became boring more. Everything became very bad with the exit Mega Man 8 (1997, Psone, Sega Saturn): Clown graphics and levels in the parrot coloring were supplemented by completely stupid situations when it was impossible to understand whether it was possible to jump on a platform hanging in the air or is it just a background element.

In addition, two spin-offs for arcade machines (1995-1996) worked on classical mechanics, but after the eighth part a series of eleven years in a fever. Wild branches appeared: Legends , Battle Network , Zero , ZX And Star Force (each – with their own set of games), where Megamen was transferred Sky Vegas Casino to 3D, crossed from RPG, turned into adventure and even added step -by -step battles in the spirit of Japanese role -playing games. We do not list all of them for the simple reason that over the years of such games there have been more than a hundred.

But in 2008 Capcom The same under many years of pressure of rightly embittered fans bent and arranged a series of grandiose return: in Mega Man 9 (which, like the tenth, appeared on Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360) threw all unnecessary developments and returned the eight -bit graphics.

But that's not all. The fact is that you can kill bosses in random order. All eight stages are available at once. So, the creators have no idea when and what abilities you will. Each location here has both the second and third bottom, the main thing is to choose the right weapon. For example, passing through the sewer, you can carefully jump from the platform to the platform, trying not to get under numerous waterfalls, but if by that time you have flying robosobaka, the same level will turn into a convincing similarity of the space scrolling.

You should not hope that costumes are needed only to amuse your pride. Without them, you just can't survive here. Mega Man 10 from the ancient NES platformers, among other things, got indecent, bringing to tears and tantrums the difficulty. Here someone constantly wants to push you on the spikes, slow down, burn, stab or just score to death. Passing will take at least a week of active game, although it would seem that nothing. You will have to memorize each of them by heart so that you can jump over the abyss with closed eyes. Save, as in the very first parts, you can only between the stages. There are only one checkpoint at all levels, but if life ends, you will have to start again. In order to at least somehow navigate, you have to start a special notebook and place the most difficult moments and unpleasant surprises in it, so that, after evening tea, to think about how to get around them and which suit is better to use.

Victory is given hard, but the pleasure of each level passed is completely phenomenal. For weak in spirit, the level of complexity of Easy was added, in which the damage inflicted on the hero is reduced, and some dangerous abysses are carefully covered by platforms. But to be honest, it is better not to use it: Mega Man – of those games that should be difficult. Just because it is more interesting: at first it seems that the levels are simply impassable, and the developers are sophisticatedly mocking the players. But several hours pass (and someone-and days), and the insight comes: you begin to better understand the mechanics, to jump, more successfully to dodge. There are new, unexpected ways of using costumes right there. Mega Man is a game that brings up patience, teaches determination and makes you grow up.

Changes! We are not waiting for change!

The basic mechanics of Mega Man has not changed over more than two decades. In this regard, "Gambling" recalls other famous conservatives from the world of show business

Charles Spencer Chaplin

Even before 1927, Charlie Chaplin earned his glory and success with legendary dumb comedies: “Baby”, “Parisian” and “Golden Rush”. But that year, the sound came to the cinema, and Chaplin did not want to give a damn about it: all the 30s he continues to make films in the old fashioned way, and even the famous painting “The Lights of the Big City” remained dumb, despite some sound effects and music (written, music (written. By the way, Chaplin himself). His first completely sound film, the Great Dictator, was released only in 1940.

Stephen King

Since the 90s, the famous writer Stephen King has been trying with varying success to repeat his own triumph: all his best works were written in the last century and many readers and critics agree that King did not write anything just as interesting and frightening since released works under the pseudonym Richard Bakhman. At the same time, most of his books use the same dramatic structure: the horror of “one idea” (a person loses weight to death, the car drives on its own), while everything is gradually dying around. King is true to himself to the very end – his last novel, “under the dome”, is built according to the same scheme.

Aerosmith

“Bad boys from Boston” have long been famous for the most conservative rockers on the planet: they perform from the 70s, practically without changing the composition, and in their songs they are similar to the texts, music is similar and the mood is similar. It never occurred to them to experiment with sound or scroll the guitar motives backwards, as the Beatles did at one time. Buy Get Your Wings (1974) and Rockin ’The Joint (2005) – and you will practically not feel the difference.

* * *

Today, platformers are experiencing a second birth, and each new project seeks to stand out with something like that. Capcom courageously mention all the latest trends: in Mega Man 10 there are neither physical puzzles, nor manipulations with space-time-nothing at all that is considered a good tone in trending platforms. And that is why this game is magnificent: a bunch of blue pixels symbolizing the protagonist shoots from the pixel blaster, kills other pixel heaps and jumps over traps to the squeaky electronic soundtrack – today it captures the same way as twenty years ago. Mega Man – a game with a fantastic potential, which is easily enough for more than one part.

Mega Man 10, of course, can be safely recommended to any person who is not indifferent to video games, but only those who defeated Dr. Wiles for at least three to four times can love him. So, if you did not have NES, in preparation for this game, we recommend that you start the early parts of the series once again on the emulator. Because Mega Man 10 is not just a fashionable appeal to the classic. This is the classic.
